GUNNA LUN DOGS & CATS KIRKA TINA

IRO exams, 13th - 14th of March 2010, Milan, Italy

Two weeks after exams in Zagreb, Gunna and me (along with Nina and her Brynn and Darja and Lynn), we competed in area search in Milan, Italy.

The weather was as ordered - Spring has finally shown us its face and sun was a constant companion. When I think back now, good weather is actually less than the Italians deserved for a wonderful organization. Italian Club X-plorer was organized everything in collaboration with the local Red Cross. I participated in a lot of national and IRO exams and can say that this is the best organization that I attended and I think it would be difficult to overcome it.

They indeed covered everything: from the accommodation offered on the ground of the Red Cross where the exams took place till extremely rich food. Soldiers were "mobilized" and personnel in the organization were countless. This may have already noticed at registration in which were involved several helpers: one to receive the application, the other for giving the necessary information to candidates, the third to give vouchers for food, the fourth for payment, etc., etc. At one point I had a feeling that I'm at the World Championship. Indeed, each honoring the organization...

There were three judges from Switzerland who constantly exchanged with each other in various categories of trials so that each candidate is judged by a different judge each discipline: Martin Gut, Kurt Joss and Otto Lanz.

Gunna and me had all disciplines on Sunday.

Area with obstacles and obedience was beautifull. Obstacles were great, the grass perfectly slain and without any holes, horizontal ladder without slippery parts ... The only criticism would be for placement of tables, some of them were too close. Everything could be seen from the stands. As an additional factor of disturbance (except lawn and gunshot), there were a small aircrafts and helicopters from the airport on the other side of the fence because of whose permanent landing and taking off on several occasions, I thought that I'm at some air show.
Obedience was judged by Otto Lanz and he judged 36/50 points which wasn't obedience of our lives for sure... The obstacles (judge Kurt Joss) were pretty better. Gunna was very good but she broke the last rug of long jump and entered into the "agility mode": because she was over-excited, she didn't sat before and after every obstacle while the points just was breaking down.

So, we got, 45/50 points

Wood was in the immediate vicinity of the Red Cross, and was part of a large park. For every few dozen meters on the edge of the field, there was standing one soldier who was watched for unintentional walkers during the exam. Search was judging by Martin Gut.
Woods was completely flat, fairly open in places dotted with a thorny shrubs. Candidates could walk by the central way and send the dogs left and right. There were 3 figurants and the time limit was 20 minutes which was not a difficult requirement in this type of forest.

Unlike last exam where Gunna was too independent, now she worked beautiful with reviering and I was very pleased. It was a standard highly motivated search with high desire and passion, which has been praised from the judge and energetic. She found all figurants exactly at the beginning of the 14th minute, and with another Italian SAR team, she was the only who successfully passed qualification. But, like at the last exam she stopped to bark when I was in her visual field and it was repeated here at first 2 figurants so we lost a lot of points. Pity, because she searched really good L But we'll practice it, we already work on that point and it looks quite good for now. So we get 160/200 points.

I must say that during all this years, Gunna has turned into a very dependable rescue dog. When I send her in the wood somewhere, if not found, I know that there is nobody there. She do it with all her heart and gives all her heart.
With the exception of one exam in Zagreb, in the last 4 years we did not fell a single test in which we came. That's my Gunna...

RESULTS...
